A philosophy that convinces

What makes Niggli Angus GmbH so special? Quite clearly: its philosophy. Here, the focus is on natural and efficient farming. The aim is to breed maintenance-free grassland genetics. This means that the cows give birth to their calves independently and without human intervention – every year in the fall. This approach not only promotes the health of the animals, but also saves resources and ensures sustainable farming.

The Aberdeen Angus breed

Aberdeen Angus cattle are known worldwide for their excellent maternal qualities and high-quality meat. Ideal for grassland husbandry, they benefit from the natural feeding and husbandry in Samedan. Niggli Angus GmbH has built up its breeding program with cattle directly from Scotland and has relied on purebred lines ever since.

Posture at the highest level

In Samedan, the animals have access to a modern free stall barn with space for 35 suckler cows and their calves. The surrounding 40 hectares of natural meadows provide the high-quality fodder that the animals enjoy all year round. In summer, the herd moves to the Muottas Alp – at an altitude of up to 2500 meters. The fresh mountain air and alpine pastures not only ensure the well-being of the animals, but also produce particularly aromatic meat.

What does Niggli Angus GmbH offer?

The company not only sells meat of the highest quality, but also young bulls from top breeding lines. These are in demand from other breeders who also rely on the advantages of Aberdeen Angus cattle. Niggli Angus GmbH also works together with Swissgenetics: Several breeding bulls from the farm are used there.

Focus on sustainability

Sustainability is a particular concern of the farm. The cows are fed exclusively on grassland, and regionality is also a priority when it comes to energy: Biogas slurry from the surrounding area is used. In addition, the farm is working on breeding a type of cow that emits less methane – a contribution to climate protection, which is particularly important in agriculture.
